Art and Design
What can I do with a degree in Art and Design?
An art degree opens the door to a wide variety of career opportunities and provides a solid foundation for post-graduate study. Whether you choose to create art or teach art history, art majors work for museums and galleries, art foundations, auction houses, in conservation and preservation, film and television, government agencies, industry, publishing, retailing, visual resources and writing. Jobs such as grant administrator, corporate curator, art appraiser and architectural conservationist blend and showcase the interests and expertise of today’s art majors. Art graduates have gone on to further study and careers not only in art and architecture, but also in medicine, law and business.

Hands-On Learning
Community
Kansas Wesleyan University plays an integral part of a robust arts community in Salina. Students are hired as interns or to design special projects for local businesses and organizations. For example, Salina Arts & Humanities utilizes the talents of graphic design students to create the marketing collateral for its annual Smoky Hill River Festival, and KWU Photography students and alumni are hired as festival photographers.
In addition to KWU’s strong ties in the arts community, students receive studio arts supplies, which are already included into tuition costs. KWU’s diverse faculty as well as its dedicated studios and laboratories offer student’s a chance to receive hands-on learning and experience.
The Gallery
Kansas Wesleyan houses its own art gallery in Sams Hall of Fine Arts. The Gallery hosts exhibits featuring the work of local and regional artists as well as artwork produced by KWU students. The Gallery hosts receptions for exhibiting artists, giving the campus and Salina community an opportunity to meet the artists.
If you are interested in exhibiting at The Gallery or would like more information, please contact Lori Wright at [email protected].
